Personality:
Jack Morrison was, at one point, charismatic and celebrated, a renowned and well-liked military commander noted for his ability to bring together varied and occasionally conflicting personalities. Described as the “moral compass” of the original strike operation, his work ethic, leadership talent, and perseverance in the face of a civilization-ending crisis was recognized in his promotion to first official commander of Overwatch. Over the course of two decades, he used Overwatch to rebuild, champion international peace, and foster groundbreaking developments in science and technology. He was widely regarded as someone the whole world could really and truly call a hero—which they did. Though we’re given only brief glimpses of the man he used to be, it’s clear that he was competent, compassionate, and thoroughly devoted to both his cause and his people.

It’s difficult, however, to live on a pedestal. Somewhere along the line, his idealism became a hindrance, blinding him to corruption and the bureaucratic bloating of his own organization. Perhaps too trusting of those who surrounded him (in particular, Gabriel Reyes), Jack pursued Overwatch’s mission at the expense of almost everything else (including his interpersonal relationships and, in one instance, a nation’s sovereignty). Entangled in global politics and struggling under the weight of falling public opinion, controversy, and the outing of an off-the-rails covert ops division accused of human rights abuses, the once-great peacekeeping force was put to rest after an apparent attack on its Swiss headquarters. Jack was killed in the blast.

Just kidding, sort of. Though he physically survived, the same cannot be said for his mental state. His eulogy praised the fact that he “gave everything he was to Overwatch”—but perhaps he gave a bit too much. With all he built laid to ruin, what could possibly be left?

Christened Soldier: 76 by the media, the vigilante that crawled out of Overwatch’s rubble firmly believes that the man he used to be is dead, and with him, everything he worked for. In fact, 76 doubts it was worth working for in the first place, and thinks he wasted his time. Disillusioned, bitter, and overly-cynical, he actively works to divorce himself from the inspirational, heroic figure that he once was, writing off his prior convictions as unrealistic and painfully naive. Where Jack was unwaveringly devoted to a grander vision of world peace, 76 is shellshocked, paranoid, and fully committed to uncovering the truth of how things went so wrong—or maybe just exacting retribution for it.

Burdened by his failure and wrapped up in conspiracy theories, he doesn’t “play by the rules anymore”, evidenced by his string of attacks on financial institutions, corporate offices, and old Overwatch bases. Few prices are too high to pay for the answers that he wants, and the same drive that helped him achieve so much in his heyday has turned into single-minded, self-destructive obsession. 76 is hellbent on revenge, and seems perfectly content to lose the last vestiges of his former self in the process, especially if it means bringing his enemies (real or perceived) to justice.

His general demeanor is gruff, blunt, and sardonic. Ana Amari seems to be a good influence on him (the closest he gets to friendly is in conversation with her), but she's the glaring exception. Not one to offer praise, encouragement, or words in general, 76 is impatient and terse, acutely aware of his age and a little self-deprecating with regards to it. Still, he’s stubborn, insistent, and a tenacious force to be reckoned with. The mission is what matters to him now, not people who might get caught in the crossfire—76 is still exceptionally driven, and has a tendency to barrel headfirst into a fight without much thought (something for which he's criticized).

He’s a man who has lost almost everything, knows the price of war intimately, and is no stranger to sacrifice. Underneath his burning desire for vengeance is someone who has nothing else to strive for. Though he's certainly aware he’s past his prime, fighting is what he knows, and the only thing he feels he can do (he is, after all, "just a soldier"). 76 functions with the knowledge that once he catches up to the ghosts he’s chasing (if they exist at all), he’ll serve no further purpose. He’s running on borrowed time, and has to make it count.

For all of his ennui, ruthless tendencies, and questionable methodology, however, he can’t quite shake the hero thing. Though he's clearly unhinged and doesn’t hesitate to resort to violence, he’s noted to incapacitate rather than kill. Faced with the choice between pursuing weapons traffickers or saving the life of a civilian, he opts for the latter (albeit not without serious consideration—a testament to how far he’s fallen). Though he adamantly insists to the civilian in question that he isn’t a hero and shouldn’t be called one, there’s a part of him still devoted to doing the right thing.

How he gets there, however, doesn’t matter anymore. The ends justify the means, after all.

Abilities and Nerfs:
As the product of an experimental “soldier enhancement program”, 76 possesses greatly increased strength, speed, agility, and stamina. He's seen performing superhuman physical feats and is also extremely durable, able to take significant beatings (from fellow super soldiers, no less) and recover fairly quickly. It’s this resilience and perhaps an accelerated healing factor that allowed him to survive the attack on HQ. He has advanced military, arms, and covert ops training, and is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant with plenty of firsthand battlefield experience. In combination with his genetically enhanced physiology, this makes him a force to be reckoned with in a one-on-one (or five-on-one) fight. Or any kind of fight. He’s described in-universe by people who got on the wrong end of his fists and gun as “[…] a professional. Confident. Surgical”.

76 carries an arsenal of stolen government weaponry and equipment that includes:
● An auto-targeting tactical visor that also acts as an environment scanner. In-game, the auto-targeting function of the visor can only be used for six seconds at a time after a charge period. He’s a competent marksman even without it.
● A heavy pulse rifle, his primary weapon, capable of both standard fire and a trio of long-range rockets, the latter of which requires a cooldown period.

Inventory:
● The clothes on his back, including equipment harnesses, body armor, and extremely cool jacket.
● Heavy pulse rifle + ammo. This is a very large gun that could potentially fit in a very large duffel bag, but if it’s too big for the game’s weapon requirements, feel free to remove it from his inventory. If the pulse rifle is indeed too large, then his allotted weapon will be his…
● Secondary sidearm (just a regular pistol)
● Tactical visor and mask.
Biotic fields, short-term nanotech healing devices. He carries six of these visibly on his person, implying a limited-use functionality.

Five Desires:
76 isn’t someone who really wants anything beyond justice/revenge/retribution/possibly the slow deaths of anyone involved in the conspiracy that brought down Overwatch, but if pressed…
● Justice/revenge/retribution/possibly the slow deaths of anyone involved in the conspiracy that brought down Overwatch.
● A tangible guarantee that Ana Amari is currently safe.
● A safe house free of audio/video surveillance.
● Weapon maintenance supplies.
● More…guns…
